BOARDING AT MELBOURNE GIRLS GRAMMAR

They build strong friendships and bonds that transcend their time at school and connect them to a truly global community while also being immersed into Australian culture.  Like a family, the boarders study together, live together and go on outings together.  Being a boarder at MGGS enables our ur international students to learn not only in the classroom but from the other students within the boarding house.

For boarders forging new friendships, getting up to speed with new teachers and new courses, it is a time of great transition. That is why we prioritise support systems including in-house mentors and additional academic assistance.

Melbourne Girls Grammar has a proud tradition of boarding stretching back over 100 years. The Boarding House delivers a diverse program for girls in Years 7 – 12 and is situated in the School’s Merton Hall campus.

One of the great strengths of our Boarding House is the quality and depth of the relationships built between the School, families and the girls. Our boarders truly value the opportunity to learn to be independent, develop their character, build relationships and become confident young women. With our boarders spanning Australia and in many cases the globe, they bring with them a wide range of abilities, learning experiences and expectations. This diversity of experience and perspective ensures that our girls are exposed to different ways of thinking and seeing the world which builds a broader outlook on life.

Boarders attending MGGS are supported to achieve their personal best in their academic pursuits. Boarding House supervisors and teachers in the day School communicate regularly. The Boarding House staff are well informed about academic progress and classroom engagement and focus. Our young and dynamic residential staff, along with our dedicated academic tutors, support the girls from transition into the School through to graduation from VCE.

The Boarding House fosters strong, capable young women who develop the skills and confidence to flourish and be their best in every possible way. At Melbourne Girls Grammar we believe an exceptional education provides not only academic skills and attributes, but also nurtures emotional and physical wellbeing. We aim to develop every girl’s capacity to be an independent and reflective learner. Our girls acquire the skills they need to be strong self-advocates; articulating their needs, concerns and aspirations with confidence and courage.

The independence attained by our girls ensures they approach their VCE studies with confidence and look with optimism to the many opportunities beyond graduation. A boarding experience at MGGS prepares our girls for life beyond School.
