English Support

Students who are not English first language are personally supported and tutored by our Intensive English and English Other Language tutors. Modified programs are individually created in order to offer international students the language support that they require in order to reach their potential.

Students entering in Preparatory to Year 4 do not need to sit an English proficiency exam and are integrated into the mainstream classroom straight away. Students entering after Year 4 must demonstrate a proficiency level in English before entering a full mainstream timetable.

International students who are English Other Language (EOL) receive small group EOL tuition to help them meet their academic potential. Some students have the opportunity to study their native language – this makes their academic load more manageable.

Saint Stephen’s College Intensive English is a modified mainstream program that focuses on developing English proficiency to allow students a smooth transition into studying a full mainstream curriculum. Intensive English classes operate in Years 4 to 10. Saint Stephen’s College is unique in providing students the opportunity to integrate in some mainstream classes, excursions and events from the commencement of enrolment. Intensive English classes operate in small student numbers to offer individualised instruction and personalised tuition.
