ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Statement of Expectations

International students seeking enrolment at Launceston Grammar must be aware that the School expects a conscientious approach to studies and full involvement and participation in the Co-curricular Programme (ie. cultural, sporting, outdoor education and community service).

International students enter the School as Boarders unless they are living with a parent holding a Student Guardian Visa, or an approved family member.  The Boarding House provides boarding places for students from grades 7–12.  Located at the Senior Campus, the Boarding House offers a safe and caring environment, a place to make friends and which facilitates the learning of English.

To discuss entry requirements, we encourage you to speak to our Registrar who can assist with your application.

Students entering the Senior Campus

An AEAS report must be provided, certifying the student's level of English is required as part of the regular enrolment process.  In addition to providing the School with certified copies of the student's two most recent academic reports (translated into English).  Applicants must achieve stanine score in both Mathematics Reasoning Ability and Non Verbal General Ability of at least Stanine 6 or above in the AEAS report. Students applying for enrolment at Launceston Grammar in Grade 10, or above, are required to achieve an English Assessment total score of greater than 60 in an AEAS test at the completion of their ELICOS.  This means that the School will consider applications with a lower English score but those students will be required to complete an ELICOS program for the number of weeks as recommended in the AEAS report prior to entering our School.

Prospective students applying for enrolment at Launceston Church Grammar School in Grades 7, 8 and 9 are required to achieve an English Assessment total score of greater than 50 in their AEAS test at the completion of their ELICOS.  The same considerations are given to students with a lower level of English at application, as noted above.

These tests are designed to assess the language ability of students who need to study where English is the language of communication.  Launceston Church Grammar School does not undertake placement tests once the students arrive but we do monitor the student's progress at their preferred ELICOS provider and receive regular updates from them. Further information about AEAS testing is available on the AEAS website.

Students entering the Junior Campus

An AEAS report, certifying the student's level of English is required along with certified copies of the overseas student's two most recent academic reports (translated into English), must be submitted with an application for enrolment at the School's Junior Campus.  A student's proficiency in English must be determined to be of a standard that will enable them to access the curriculum offered by the School.  We also require students to achieve stanine score in both Mathematics Reasoning Ability and Non Verbal General Ability of at least Stanine 6 or above in the AEAS report.
