Summary Information

An AEAS Report is a requirement for all students who are studying overseas in a non-English speaking country. Please submit an AEAS report as the first step. All AEAS Reports are reviewed by an academic panel to ensure PLC Sydney is suitable for your daughter’s learning.

AEAS Requirements

  • Years 7-10 – 70 or above
  • Year 11 – 78 or above
  • All year levels must have a non-verbal and mathematical ability stanine of between 7 and 9

Applications for primary school students will be considered by interview and assessment at the College’s discretion. An AEAS test may be required for Years 4 - 6 as a guideline of the student’s English ability.

More Detailed Information

International students whose first language is not English and have been studying in Australia for less than one year, will be required to sit an English assessment with Australian Education Assessment Services (AEAS) to show evidence of their English proficiency. An AEAS test report must be submitted before an application can be processed.

All costs associated with AEAS testing are to be paid by the family/student. AEAS is the only recognised testing procedure used by PLC Sydney for students currently studying overseas. An English course may be required if the required level of proficiency is not met, followed by reassessment through AEAS. Please refer to the AEAS website for further information.

In order for the application of an international student to be accepted at PLC Sydney, the following levels of English proficiency MUST be reached:

  • Years 7 - 10:  A minimum of 70% for English and a Stanine 7 for Mathematical Ability and Non-Verbal Reasoning

  • Years 11 and 12:  A minimum of 78% for English and a Stanine 7 for Mathematical Ability and Non-Verbal Reasoning

Most students will also need to undertake an ELICOS course (English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students). The average ELICOS course length is approximately 12 weeks.

Please note:  Once an international student has been accepted to the College, in-class support is offered where appropriate. After commencing at the College, additional English language tuition is offered through the PLC Sydney Extension Centre (at additional charge). English EAL/D are offered as subjects for Higher School Certificate studies. No additional costs apply to these courses.
