ABOUT THE SCHOOL

ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Stuartholme School is a renowned Catholic girls’ day and boarding school in Brisbane, with a sublime setting and a formidable reputation for excellence in education and empowering young women. For the students and graduates of Stuartholme, it is about maximising the opportunities provided by our unique blend of tradition and technology, spirit and spirituality, excellence and selflessness, and community and individuality. With us, your daughter will have a defining education.

We pride ourselves on providing a secondary school education, fostering girl’s creativity, identity, and confidence. We strive to ensure a nurturing environment for all girls across all year levels, to equip them with all the knowledge to pursue their aspirations in the present and later in life. We inspire the girls of Stuartholme to become confident high-level thinkers and aspiring global citizens beyond the gates of our campus.

Stuartholme prides itself on our cultural diversity and welcomes students from countries worldwide.  The school offers a secure, safe and dynamic learning environment where each student has the opportunity to have a rich and rewarding learning experience.  Our well-rounded education program also offers a secure pathway to a career or to further study at Australian and overseas universities.

History

Stuartholme was established in 1920 with just five young girls.  During World War II, Stuartholme became the 42nd General Hospital of the United States Army.  Unfortunately, it was not possible for students to stay at the School, so the School was packed up and moved firstly to Canungra and then to Southport.  For much of its history, Stuartholme operated as a boarding school only.  Although the School now caters for both day and boarding students it remains Brisbane’s only Catholic girls’ boarding school.  In 2020 the school celebrated its centenary.

Location

Nestled in the foothills of the Brisbane suburb of Mount Cootha, Stuartholme is only six kilometres from the City centre.  With spectacular views across Brisbane city and Moreton Bay’s beautiful islands, the School's 21 hectares of unspoilt beauty is an ‘educational sanctuary’ from the hustle and bustle of inner-city life.

Philosophy

Stuartholme School is an international School of the Sacred Heart.  The Society of the Sacred Heart is an international congregation of Catholic religious women, established by Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat in France in 1800.

Stuartholme School has a strong commitment to the five Sacred Heart Educational Goals.  Every year, the school community reflects and focuses on one goal.  We hope each year this encourages the students, staff, parents, alumnae and friends associated with the school to develop a deeper understanding of the Sacred Heart Goals and work towards living them in their everyday lives.

The five Goals of Sacred Heart Education are:

  1. A personal and active faith in God
  2. A deep respect for intellectual values
  3. Building community as a Christian value
  4. A social awareness that impels to action
  5. Personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom
