PASTORAL CARE

PASTORAL CARE

One of the strengths of The Illawarra Grammar School is the care provided for each student as an individual.  We ensure a safe and enjoyable school environment by carefully supervising the welfare of our students.

Every staff member is trained and committed to maximising every child’s personal growth, encouraging them to make an ongoing positive contribution to the school and the wider community.

We facilitate many programmes that foster continued development for all of our students, whether it is at an academic or personal level.

Our pioneering Student Wellbeing Programme echoes the core values of our school community – Academic, Christian and Caring.  It is our aim to provide staff and students with opportunities to explore, discuss and integrate practical knowledge and skills to enhance their holistic personal growth, with direct benefits for both their education and future career.

Our thriving Mentor Programme which has a strong pastoral care dynamic, sees students, teachers and staff working together and forging strong bonds that continue throughout their years at TIGS and beyond.  Students and teachers meet each morning to provide support and encouragement and this regular personal connection delivers many positive behavioural and relationship outcomes.

Great memories are formed as students are welcomed into one of our four School Houses – Aranda, Coligan, Kogara or Wolgal – and compete in events such as the Swimming Carnival, Athletics Carnival, The Great Race and ArtsFest.  The feeling of inclusiveness cultivated as our students work together to propel their House to victory makes this a special and unique part of our Wellbeing Programme.
